Restoran Setapak Teochew~

Situated at Jalan Pahang, Setapak, this is probably the BEST place to go for Hokkien mee and fried bihun in the KL region!!! Restoran Setapak Teochew (文良港潮州餐室饼家) seems to be operating for a little over a hundred years since 1912 (according to what is written on the walls). It looks like an old-fashioned coffee shop thou, but with one section renovated and air-conditioned. I've visited this restaurant many times since years ago, and it has yet to disappoint me~

Wondering why I'm in a bottle? It's raining~ :)

Every time I visited this restaurant, I'll definitely order their Hokkien mee 炒福建面, fried bihun 炒米粉, and fish cakes 鱼饼~ They do sell all kinds of dishes as well, such as fish bihun soup, fish balls soup, fried bean curd skin 腐竹 (fu chuk) etc. Most of their dishes uses home-made ingredients, which includes their mee and fish cakes! Hokkien mee uses some kind of flat chewy noodles with a uniquely nice texture. Their home-made own-recipe black soy sauce is probably the key ingredient that brought the nice fragrance to their Hokkien mee!! Hokkien mee is fried with some proteins, vegetables, and deep-fried pork lard. Some people eat it with chopped garlic too. Together all these ingredients made up a plate of saliva-inducing Hokkien mee, definitely on the recommended list!!!

Hokkien mee 炒福建面, RECOMMENDED!!!
Next up we have their fried bihun 炒米粉. Unlike the "usual" fried bihun which is fried with soy sauce, their fried bihun is white in colour~ Bihun fried with proteins, chillies, vegetables, and deep-fried pork lard as well, thus it's a little spicy! Sometimes, too much pork lard made the dish a little oily thou, but it doesn't kill the dish as the flavors are really rich. Thus, I'd recommend trying this dish as well!!
Fried bihun 炒米粉, RECOMMENDED!!!
Lastly we have their fried fish cakes 西刀鱼饼, which serves as the appetizer before the main dishes~ Fried until the outer layer turns yellow while preserving the inner tenderness and chewy fish cakes, dipped with chilli sauce, it can be eaten as appetizers or side-dish for Hokkien mee or fried bihun~
Fish cakes 西刀鱼饼, half a serving is already missing...
The price offered by the house is very reasonable, large (2~3 pax) Hokkien mee priced at about RM25, medium (1~2 pax) fried bihun around RM16, and fish cakes at around RM8. With under RM50, 4 of us left the restaurant filled and satisfied~

Recommendation Summary:

That's MY story, what's YOURS?
